National Physical Laboratory (NPL)

Partner 5: from month 17 to month 36

NPL is the UK's National Measurement Institute and a world-leading centre of excellence in developing and applying the most accurate measurement standards, science and technology available. Based in south-west London, our laboratory is a 36,000 m2 purpose built measurement building with 388 of the world's most extensive and sophisticated measurement science laboratories. For more than a century NPL has developed and maintained the nation's primary measurement standards, which underpin the National Measurement System infrastructure of traceability throughout the UK and the world, to ensure accuracy and consistency of measurement. NPL delivers world-leading measurement solutions that are critical to commercial research and development across the UK and the globe. Specific to the tasks in the ACMOL project, NPL is working to provide the measurement capability (quantum metrology and nanoanalysis techniques) necessary to characterise the graphene grown by various methods with a view to enabling the industrialisation of graphene production and its adoption. In particular, we focus on correlating electrical properties of graphene-based materials with their morphological, structural and chemical characteristics, which define and underlay the overall device performance.
