The consortium is composed by 4 members: 1 public research organisation and 3 universities. The ACMOL consortium represents a truly multidisciplinary cross-cut through relevant research areas devoted to the fabrication of a new generation of molecular spintronic devices, that can meet the needs that exist in emerging nanotechnology areas. ACMOL consortium combines the complementary expertise of their members, from chemistry, physics to theory.


Partner 1: Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC).

Hosted at the Materials Science Institute of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC), the Nanomol group is responsible for the WPs and tasks devoted to the synthesis and self-assembly of the novel functional molecules, in particular organic radicals and conjugated molecules, that will be integrated into the devices developed in the project. Within this remit, Nanomol has a wide expertise and recognized excellence in the synthesis, processing and study of molecular and polymeric materials with appealing chemical, electronic, sensing, magnetic and biomedical properties.
Additionally, as coordinator of the project, Nanomol is responsible of the project’s life cycle management and the reporting to the EC.

Partner 2: University of Bern (UNIVERSITAET BERN)

The hosting Electrochemical Nanoscience group ( is carrying out pioneering research in molecular scale surface electrochemistry, 2D molecular self-assembly, single molecule electron transport at electrified solid/liquid interfaces, and electrocatalysis on well-defined electrode surfaces. A significant part of the scientific success of the group is based on the capability to develop new instrumentation for experiments of interest.

Partner 3: Kavli Institute for Nanoscience. Delft University of Technology (TU Delft)

The hosting group, named Molecular Electronics and Devices (MED), has an internationally recognized expertise in molecular electronics combined with an excellent scientific network. The MED group supports with a wide variety of equipment for low-noise electronic measurements between 10 mk and 300 K required for the successful development of this proposal.

Partner 4: Trinity College Dublin (TCD) - from month 1 to month 16

Trinity College Dublin is in charge of the modelling and computational studies for the ACMOL project. Due to the diversity of the calculations and modelling required two young researchers, Dr. Ivan Rungger and Dr. Andrea Droghetti, teamed up to carry out the different parts of the theoretical research.
Trinity College Dublin has left the project during the second year, while being replaced by the University of the Basque Country and the National Physical Laboratory.

Partner 5: National Physical Laboratory - from month 17 to month 36

NPL is the UK's National Measurement Institute and a world-leading centre of excellence in developing and applying the most accurate measurement standards, science and technology available. The research of the hosting Mathematics&Modelling group is focussed on data science and materials modelling. NPL is in charge of the quantum transport simulations for the ACMOL project.

Partner 6: University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) - from month 17 to month 36

The hosting group, called Nano-Bio Spectroscopy group, ( has a world leading expertise in the theory and modelling of electronic and structural properties of materials. Furthermore the Nano-Bio Spectroscopy Group has had an active role in the development of the European Theoretical Spectroscopy Facility (, a knowledge centre carrying out state-of-art theoretical research on electronic and optical properties of materials.
The Nano-Bio Spectroscopy Group is in charge of the theoretical modelling of the molecules and graphene.
